Enable Engineering and Product Metrics

Connecting your Jira instance to TargetBoard enables access to all Jira-based KPIs and models. This includes standard metrics such as cycle time, planning analysis, quality tracking and velocity as well as more complex metrics such as DORA and scoring for your developers.

This document outlines the configuration required to set up Jira as a connected data source using Airbyte, TargetBoard’s ETL pipeline.

Prerequisites

  • Setup will need to be done by a Jira admin.
  • Jira URL using HTTPS (integration will fail with HTTP).
  • Whitelist relevant IP addresses depending on your data residency location (click here for the full list).

  1. Log in to your Jira account with admin permissions.
  2. Click on your user icon --> Profile --> Manage your account.
  3. Navigate to the Security tab and click Create and Manage API tokens.
  4. Click Create API token.
  5. Enter a label e.g. Targetboard.
  6. Click Create and copy the token immediately (Jira will not show it again).

Send the following to your TargetBoard contact:

  • The API token generated above.
  • The email address of the Jira user you would like to use for syncing.
    • Ideally this should be a dedicated user created for this purpose and not an existing user in your organization.
  • Full Jira URL (not only base).
  • The version of the Jira data center you are using.
